My pet doesn’t know I’m posting this–hell, I didn’t know I’d be posting this until just an hour ago–but I need to describe the past day and what it’s felt like. This morning, I was home in NJ, with my kids and wife. Four hours later, I’m in Washington, DC attending a superbowl part with my future wife and meeting her 14 year old daughter for the first time. And now, I’m sitting in the hotel, thinking about what an incredible day it was and how great it felt to give what will be my future step-daughter a hug goodbye. Thinking about how nice it was to be able to see her in person, to talk to her, to make her laugh. How fearful I’ve been about whether My darling’s children would like me, be comfortable around me, and how amazing it was, at least for today, that the older one was.

Came in on the Metro and My love met me at the station (of course, she forgot her phone so she didn’t know I was delayed…) After a nice, but tense meeting we had to go to her home to grab her phone–something i said was a bad idea as her almost-divorced-husband said he was not ready to meet me. Of course, I’m sitting in the car and she tries to run in JUST as he walks out and glares at me before scurrying away into the house. *sighs*

However, after that hesitant start, we went to pick up her daughter and the evening just was wonderful from there on. We picked her up, I said hello, we chatted a bit, then went to the party. I got to meet some of My love’s friends and we spent about 4 very nice, comfortable hours talking, laughing, watching football, and watching My love yell and scream at the TV in a way that made me and her daughter roll our eyes together. It was really amazing to finally become a real part of My love’s life–the people who are dearest to her besides me. I know that she dotes on Me–I’ve no question of that–but it’s great to see her with the other people that matter to her, especially her kids. I would have loved to have met her son as well, but I’m just still bubbling with how wonderfully the night went.

Thank you, pet. it was just great.

The sequel should have stayed out there…

It’s been a long time since we posted to this blog, and Desire swears she’s going to pick it up again in earnest (this WAS her idea…), but today I’m home alone, having just spent a wonderful few days with Ms. Desire herself and brought up the blog to see the last post was about the X-Files movie, which we went to see on Thursday.

Ok, the movie didn’t *suck* per se, but let’s call it…not so good. I think if it didn’t have the Scully and Mulder we all knew and loved, the movie would have been utterly without point. As it was, the Point was Out There. I would say “I don’t want to ruin it for you”, but I think Chris Carter took care of that already.

Let’s see if I can rehash the “plot.” It’s harder than one would think–it doesn’t make much sense. Carter’s gift had always been obfuscation, but this is above and beyond…

An FBI agent gets kidnapped. A “potential psychic” is supposedly leading the FBI to find her, but finds some guy’s arm instead. The head of the case goes to find Scully, who is a doctor at a Catholic hospital, so that she can bring back Mulder, as he might be able to help. Mulder and Scully have their own crises of faith going on at the moment (Mulder with his continuing search for his sister, Scully with her quest to save a little boy who is dying of some uncurible disease). They battle back and forth a bit as to whether “Father Joe” is really a psychic, or just a convicted pedophile (he apparently “buggered 37 alter boys”), with Mulder believing as usual and Scully not until Scully has some sort of epiphany and suddenly isn’t sure what to believe. The audience believes, of course, and is just waiting for Scully to admit what we all know is true, as usual.

And then it gets weird. Apparently, all these missing persons (*spoiler alert!*) are being taken for their body parts because–and get this–a crazy Russian doctor is trying to help a male Russian organ transporter change the man he loves (and married in Massachusetts!) into a woman through transplanting the man’s head onto a woman’s body. I guess they’re afraid of the law being repealed and one of them not being able to have access to his spouse’s company health care? Anyway, these loons are carving people into pieces to try to graft body parts and build a woman. IF I actually heard the line in the movie correctly, they’re hoping to have a baby. *sigh*

So there you have it, for what it’s worth. They dragged these characters out of cold storage for perhaps the silliest plot I’ve ever seen. Sadly, there are two major things missing in this movie that made the show so brilliant: creepiness and humor. Honestly, the plot is so dumb that there’s just none of the suspenseful tingling you got when watching a good episode of The X-Files, and the movie wasn’t funny at all. Some of the episodes were brilliantly funny. The writing here was stale, forced, and just dull.

The Sequel is Out There…

I just stumbled upon this in the last few minutes…I didn’t even know they WERE making a sequel

I really hope it doesn’t suck. The first movie was good, but not nearly as good as the show. When the show was good, it was fantastic. Even when it wasn’t that good, it was still fun.

Tangled Up in Black

We hate tangled phone cords. I don’t know how someone can use a desk phone with the handset cord tangled up into a little ball of goo, but it makes me crazy. I’ve waged a one-man war against this and my clients typically come back to their desks to find their phone cords untangled whenever I set at their desks…although I’ve yet to hear anyone complain (“Tangle my cord back up, damn you!!”)As proof, here is today’s vanquished tangle, before:

Marksman Redux

One of our favorite pastimes is a kick-ass MMO called Hellgate: London, a futuristic, Diablo-like game with great graphics and lots of neat bad guys. I’ve been playing a character called a “Marksman”, who is basically a guy with a big gun (insert phallic joke here), but late last week the folks at Flagship Studios decided to roll out a new patch making my character a sissy. They changed the skill tree to sort of spread out the Marksman’s skills such that it’s very hard to concentrate your abilities in one place, and simply decreased the effectiveness of…well, nearly everything. Pricks. Regardless of this, using some clever strategy (e.g., running away a lot) and lots of firepower, and even more stubbornness, we killed one of the “big bad guys” in the game last night, a huge creature called “Moloch”:

Today, perhaps, we take on the other big bad guy, apparently called The Dessicrator. Where do they come up with this shit? Anyway, boo on Flagship for making my guy a milkmaid, but the game is still fun. Bye Moloch–R.I.P. (rest in pieces…)

Buffy Cast Reunion! dances

Since joining Flickr this morning, I did a search and found a couple of Flickr groups related to buffy (“Buffy” and “WHEDONnesque”). A quick peek at WHEDONesque and I learn of a recent Buffy cast reunion at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles. It was this past Thursday so the news stories are fresh out there. Apparently before the reunion there was a screening of the fabulous musical episode “Once More, With Feeling” and mention of Joss’ new internet-only musical, “Doctor Horrible’s Sing-along Blog.” Now THAT I have to see. I read a few articles on the event, and saw some funny & interesting cast interviews. Among those filmed were Sarah Michelle, Seth Green, Nicholas Brendon (who was acting like a moron), Charisma Carpenter *mews*, Amber Benson *purrs*, Emma Caulfield, and Michelle Trachtenberg. God, I miss this show. Maybe we will have a reason to read the Season 8 comics afterall. Sounds like some interesting developments…

TV Guide had a good article on the reunion, as did iF magazine. The Paley Center posted one video clip of the reunion, and TV Guide has several cast interviews. Someone please stake Nicholas Brandon. He’s either the most obnoxious person on the face of the earth, or doing hardcore drugs. He dresses like bum, too! I bet his mother was mortified.
